Iconography for an Icon.
Dolby Laboratories is a leading developer of audio technologies for cinema, computers, and games. They asked to design a cohesive iconography system to codify their services and output.
I worked closely with Dolby’s design leaders to create the complex iconography set. The family of icons lives in a variety of mediums ranging from digital to the physical.
The system makes up a powerful visual language consisting of more than 100 individual symbols across a breadth of purpose and tone. They range from the literal to abstract, playful to descriptive, simple to complex; designed to be instantly recognizable yet playful.
Example of implementation.
Other designers on the project were Jeff Jarvis, Farbod Kokabi, and intern Gemma Lindenau (pictured).
